Introduction
FloatCue (“we,” “our,” or “the app”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how FloatCue handles information when you use our mobile application.
Information We Collect
FloatCue does NOT collect, transmit, or share any personal information.
Data Stored Locally on Your Device
FloatCue stores the following data locally on your device only:
- Prompt Scripts: Text content you create or paste for teleprompter display
- Draft Items: Saved script drafts (up to 30 items)
- History Items: Recently used scripts (up to 30 items)
- App Configuration: Your preferences for floating window settings (text size, scroll speed, transparency, position)Important: All data is stored locally using iOS/Android secure storage (SharedPreferences/UserDefaults) and never leaves your device.
Data We Do NOT Collect
FloatCue does NOT collect, access, or transmit:
- Personal identification information (name, email, phone number)
- Location data
- Contact information
- Photos or camera access (beyond system permissions for video recording)
- Analytics or usage statistics
- Advertising identifiers
- Crash reports or diagnostics
- Any data to remote servers
Permissions
FloatCue may request the following system permissions:
iOS Permissions:
- Background Audio Mode: Required to keep the app active during video recording
Android Permissions:
- System Overlay Window (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW): Required to display the floating teleprompter window over other apps
- Foreground Service: Required to maintain the floating window while recordingThese permissions are used solely for app functionality and do NOT involve data collection.
Remote Controller Feature
FloatCue has introduced a Remote Controller feature that allows you to control your teleprompter from another device connected to the same WiFi network. This section explains how this feature works and what it means for your privacy.
What is the Remote Controller Feature?
The Remote Controller feature enables two-device control:
- Teleprompter Device: Displays your script and shows a QR code for pairing
- Remote Controller Device: Scans the QR code and provides remote control functions (play/pause/stop, speed adjustment, scrolling)
Important: This feature works entirely on your local WiFi network. No internet connection is required.
Data Collection
We do not collect any data from the Remote Controller feature.
All information required for the feature (WiFi IP address, network name, device name) is:
- ✓ Temporarily accessed for connection purposes only
- ✓ Stored in memory (RAM) during the active session
- ✓ Automatically deleted when you close the app or disconnect
- ✓ Never transmitted to our servers or any third parties
- ✓ Never saved to device storage or cloud services
How the Feature Works
- Connection Setup: The Teleprompter device generates a QR code containing its local WiFi IP address and port number
- Device Pairing: The Remote Controller device uses the camera to scan the QR code and establishes a direct connection
- Local Communication: Control commands (play/pause/stop/speed/scroll) are sent directly between devices on your local network
- Session End: When you close the connection or quit the app, all connection data is immediately cleared from memory
What Data is Temporarily Accessed
During a Remote Controller session, the app temporarily accesses:
| Information | Purpose | Storage | Transmission |
|---|---|---|---|
| Local WiFi IP Address | Establish device connection | Memory only | Within local network only |
| WiFi Network Name (SSID) | Display to verify same network | Memory only | Not transmitted |
| Device Name | Identify connected device | Memory only | Within local network only |
| Control Commands | Remote control functionality | Memory only | Within local network only |
What is NOT accessed or transmitted:
- ✗ Your teleprompter text content
- ✗ Personal identification information
- ✗ Device unique identifiers (IMEI, serial number)
- ✗ Your actual location (GPS coordinates)
- ✗ Usage analytics or behavior data
- ✗ Any files or media on your device
Additional Permissions for Remote Controller
The Remote Controller feature requires these additional permissions:
Camera Permission
- Why: To scan QR codes for device pairing
- When: Only when you use the Remote Controller to scan a QR code
- Not Used For: Taking photos, recording videos, or facial recognition
Local Network Access
- Why: To enable direct communication between your devices on the same WiFi network
- When: When Remote Controller feature is active
- Not Used For: Internet access or external communication
Location Permission (iOS/Android)
- Why: This is a system requirement to access WiFi network name (SSID) on iOS and Android devices
- What We Access: Only the WiFi network name, displayed on screen to help you verify both devices are on the same network
- What We DO NOT Access: GPS coordinates, precise location, location history, or any location tracking
- Important: We explicitly do NOT use this permission for location tracking
Note: The location permission is required by iOS and Android operating systems to access WiFi information, not by our choice. We only use it to display the network name for your convenience.
Your Privacy Guarantees
1. Your Content Stays on Your Device
Your teleprompter scripts and text content never leave your device. Only control commands are transmitted between devices.
2. No Cloud Storage
We do not store any connection data, session information, or usage data in the cloud.
3. No Third-Party Services
The Remote Controller feature does not use any third-party analytics, tracking, or advertising services.
4. No Internet Required
All communication happens within your local WiFi network. No internet connection is needed or used.
5. Automatic Cleanup
All connection data is automatically erased when you disconnect the remote controller, or quit the app.
Data Transmission Details
What is Transmitted Between Devices:
- Connection handshake data (IP address, port number)
- Control commands (play/pause/stop, speed adjustments, scroll position)
- Floating window status
What is NEVER Transmitted:
- Your teleprompter text or scripts
- Personal information
- Device identifiers
- Location data
- Files or media
- Any data to external servers
Security Considerations:
- Protocol: Standard HTTP (unencrypted)
- Justification: Acceptable for local network communication
- Recommendation: Use trusted WiFi networks (home/office) for sensitive content
- Avoid: Public or unsecured WiFi networks when working with confidential scripts
Your Control and Choices
- ✓ Optional Feature: Remote Controller is entirely optional
- ✓ Permission Control: You can deny permissions; the feature won’t work without them
- ✓ No Persistent Connection: Connections do not persist after app closure
Security Recommendations
- Use Trusted Networks: Connect on your home or office WiFi, not public networks
- Protect QR Codes: Don’t share screenshots of QR codes
- Monitor Connections: Disconnect if you see an unknown device
- Close When Done: Close the QR code dialog to stop accepting connections
